Running from an Angel marathon
January 9th 2010 Lake Mead, Nevada
By Eric Glass
Have you ever wondered what a race would be like if the race director’s sole purpose was NOT to make money? You might just get a long sleeve technical shirt that was not full of sponsors, or you might get an amazing finisher’s medal, or maybe you would even experience a fun race where you didn’t feel like a herd of cattle. If you choose the Angel Marathon you will get all three plus more. Full Story

MEMBER'S SPOTLIGHT___________________________________________________________________
Welcome to the 2010 edition of the Member’s Spotlight. We have goals of updating this portion of the site monthly so we can get to know our fellow club members better and learn a few things we normally would not ask.
Julie Peregord:
We are pleased to introduce Julie Peregord to this month’s edition of the member spotlight. Julie is a math and science teacher. Julie joined the Phoenix Triathlon Club and the sport of triathlon in general approximately 7 months ago. She indicates that she wants to participate in triathlon because she is not great at any sport in particular but just loves being outside and active. She doesn’t like the pressure of team sports. She is working at developing all 3 sports right now while placing extra emphasis on her run. One of her talents is incredible patience that is mandatory when teaching young adults and so we are sure that she will have enough patience when it comes to the sport of triathlon!
While Julie has not had the opportunity yet to participate in many races, she has enjoyed all of the ones she has raced so far. The farthest she has traveled for one to date is the Lake Pleasant, so it looks like we will need to push Julie to get out to at least the Blue Water Triathlon club race in Parker this year. She indicates that her pre-race ritual is fairly boring. She makes sure to eat some oatmeal and a banana with a cup of coffee while checking over her race inventory. When it comes to recovery Julie says that she uses Accelerade products and after a long weekend ride or run she makes sure to make a huge breakfast and then lie around to watch movies.
Outside of the sport of triathlon Julie likes to play the drums and has been in multiple local bands throughout the years. She enjoys rock climbing, snowboarding, reading, and role-playing at the renaissance fair (not really haha). She enjoys traveling and has traveled to Spain many times. She tries not to go to the same place over and over again. Julie is more of an explorer of new places and things. For 2010 she wants to start doing Olympic distance races and perhaps try Soma in October.
Fun Q&A:
What is your favorite drink?
“I tend to drink lots of coffee and lots of beer/wine but it also depends.”
What is your favorite gel?
“By the time I need a gel, I’m not in a position to be picky.”
What is the weirdest thing you’ve eaten?
“I’m pretty sure I ate some weird things in Costa Rica, but it was never intentional. There were times when I just had to close my eyes, not think about it, and eat.”
If you could work out with one single person, who would that be?
“I think I’d work out with Dara Torres. She’s sort of enigmatic isn’t she? I’d want to find out if it was natural. If I couldn’t get her, I would choose Eric Glass, he’s magical!”
If you were an animal, what animal would you be and why?
“That depends…when I’m swimming, I really wish I were a dolphin, when I’m running, I wish I were a cheetah, when it’s dinnertime, I’m glad I’m human.”
Do you have a good quote for us?
“I really like Al Einstein and he says; “great spirits have always encountered violent opposition from mediocre minds.” That’s a good one. Also, George W. was always good for a laugh. For example, “Arbolist… look up the world. I don’t know, maybe I made it up. Anyway, it’s an arbo-tree-ist, somebody who knows about trees.” Fabulous!!!”__________________________________________
